A Quilted Christmas tree reveal

When I signed the Mississippi Valley Quilters Guild up to create a tree for the Festival of Trees in Davenport, Iowa, my goal was to show the community that quilting is much more than a hobby for little old ladies. Quilting is beautiful and an art in its own right.

So with textiles and thread as our medium, the members of the Mississippi Valley Quilters Guild created 144 quilted ornaments and I created a paper pieced tree skirt to show off our skills and hopefully change the public’s perception of quilting.

I think we’ve succeeded, the tree looks beautiful filled with our handcrafted ornaments. Check out the slide show above to see the tree during the set up. I’ll add more photos once the Festival opens this weekend.

The Festival of Trees is open Saturday, Nov. 19 through Sunday, Nov. 27 at the RiverCenter, 136 E. 3rd St., Davenport. Admission is $8 for adults, $3 for children and $6 for seniors. Proceeds from admission and the sale of the Christmas trees and other decorations support Quad-City Arts and arts education in the Quad-Cities.
