February quilting goals: How’d I do?

I had such wonderful sewing goals for this month. But alas, the best laid plans are meant to be broken. I didn’t accomplish anywhere near what I wanted to thanks to a short month, and an unexpected sewing machine repair that left me without a machine for a week.

Here’s what I did manage to finish:

ombre crib quilt, Kona Skinny, Bright, 1600, free motion quilting,

Quilt, bind and label the ombre crib quilt

Done, done and not done. My sewing machine broke a few hours before the baby shower just as I was finishing up sewing the binding to the right side of the quilt. Thankfully my awesome neighbor is also a quilter and let me finish up on her machine. I put the final stitch in the binding as it as time to leave for the shower, so the label didn’t happen. But I did finish in time for the big event, so that’s what’s important.

Quilt a secret quilting project that I can’t quite talk about just yet

I didn’t have one free Saturday to get over to the shop where I rent time on a longarm. But I should be able to fit this in this weekend, so we’re moving this project to the March quilting goals

Finish the February BOMs

I finished these at 10 p.m. on February 28, but I finished them in February, so that counts. Did you get all of your blocks done? There are instructions on how to put the center together and properly measure and cut your borders in the March BOM.

Tab top valance tutorial

Make valances for the nursery

I am so excited to report that these are finished and have been hung in the nursery. I even put together a tutorial on how to make tab top curtains.

Make bobby covers for the nursery

Yeah, that didn’t happen.

Chevron quilt

Make a hanging sleeve for the Chevron quilt and hang it in the living room

Also didn’t happen. I still have a snowball quilt hanging. But then again there is still snow on the ground, so maybe it isn’t quite so inappropriate.

big stitch, hand quilting

Finish hand quilting one side of my wedding quilt

You’d think I could have worked on this during the week I didn’t have my sewing machine to curb the quilting withdrawal. But instead I put together three years worth of photos into a scrapbook.

Make three Christmas New York Beauty blocks

Yet again, my Christmas New York Beauty was neglected. I really want this done before the baby is born, so I need to make it a priority in March.

What did you finish in February?

  1. I managed to complete the goals I had set and begin some new ones. I completed a ufo quilt top and sent to the long arm quilter; made February blks in the two blk of the months that I’m participating in; made two quilt tops for gifts (sent one to the long arm quilter and need to pick out backing for the other one); got binding put on two quilts (one is a gift); completed a ufo blk making it into a mini quilt/table topper (quilted it myself) ; made a St. Patrick’s Day Table Runner and made 20 Shoofly blks from fabric scraps (cutting sashing from scraps and then deciding on corner stones before I begin assembling the quilt top in March).

My goals for March are to get he binding put on the Feb. ufo quilt that I just got back from the laq, get borders put on charm pack quilt top (done) and send to the laq, complete blks for my 2 bom’s (got one done which is your bom), make a name tag for the Quilt Guild I just joined, begin picking out fabrics for my Guild Bingo card so I can let other members know what little color blks I still need so we can trade and not have to buy fabric for 2.5″ blks, get my scrap busting Shoofly quilt top put together (pick out border and see what I can do for backing), turn another ufo blk into a pillow/mini quilt and get some baby receiving blankets made for future gifts. I think I have set a lot of goals to complete as well as finish or start for this month. Hope I can do well.
