Once you get the hang of it, sewing and quilting are very relaxing and enjoyable. But that doesn’t mean you don’t want to speed up the process. After all, how are you going to make all the quilts that you are dreaming of in your head if each one takes forever to piece?

That is where chain piecing comes in and I show you how to do it in today’s video. With chain piecing, you sew like pieces together all at once without breaking your thread.

This method saves time, because instead of sewing each block individually, you are able to sew parts of the block together all at once in an assembly line fashion.

Then you can follow it up by pressing, joining rows and pressing again, all in assembly line fashion, saving you boat loads of time.

Plus, as a beginner, it will help you develop the muscle memory you need to get comfortable with sewing so you can do it without too much thinking … or while you are watching Netflix. Although I do suggest you avoid action movies or anything too sexy while sewing. Too much looking up to see the screen. Bingeable series are the best for sewing background noise.

I suggest you do one block just to get the process down while following along with the Split Nine Patch video tutorial from yesterday. Then sew the remaining 15 blocks using chain piecing to speed up the completion of your quilt blocks so you are ready to piece your top together sooner!
