Virtual shop hop: Willow Creek in Kalona, Iowa

If you find yourself in Kalona, Iowa, you must visit Willow Creek Quilting and Gifts on 418 B Avenue. This shop has hundreds of bolts of fabric that are all neatly organized so that shoppers won’t get overwhelmed. The shop has the largest supply of Civil War and 1930 reproduction prints that I’ve ever seen in […]

A crib quilt for each day of the week

My baby hasn’t even been born yet and already he or she could use their own quilt rack. Thanks to wonderfully talented family and friends, my baby is definitely going to be spoiled in the handmade department. Here’s a little eye candy for your Thursday as I share the wonderful creations that have been made […]

Bonnie Hunter and her scrap obsession

If you’ve ever thrown away scraps in a Bonnie Hunter class, there’s a good chance they made their way into her pattern Pineapple Crazy in her book “String Fling.” The bed-sized quilt is made up of 5-inch paper-pieced pineapple blocks with impossibly small pieces. And all those pieces you thought you couldn’t use and tossed, well […]

I should have had my quilt judged

I love “Hangin’ Around.” I designed the pattern, pieced, appliqued and quilted it myself. I am very proud of my work. But I didn’t have it judged in the Great River Quilt show, hosted by my guild the Mississippi Valley Quilters Guild. I just entered it for display because of the quilting in the final […]

Starburst Galaxy Block 1 video tutorial

Two … this video is almost 30 minutes long! Yes, 29:54 with no commercials. That’s longer than watching an episode of […]

On the border

I finished piecing the top of my sister’s signature quilt from her wedding. I think it needs a border. I’ve got an idea about what I want to do, but would welcome suggestions. I have a lot of the white fabric left, a little of the light pink and not much of the dark pink.

New classes in eastern Iowa this winter

I’ve added some new classes to my schedule in eastern Iowa this winter. If you’re in the area, I’d love to see you at one of the classes. I’m also available to come to guilds and quilt shops in the Midwest, so let me know if you’d like to schedule a class. For a complete […]

Quilt retreat!

As you read this I am happily sewing away at quilt retreat. The semi-annual get-a-way is hosted by my guild, the Mississippi Valley Quilters Guild and it gives me four days of (mostly) uninterrupted sewing and quilting. This is the first time I’m going for more than just the weekend in three years, so I’m […]
