Virtual Shop Hop: Home Ec. Workshop, Iowa City
Home Ec. Workshop is haven for all modern fiber artists. It is filled with fun prints, gorgeous yarn and a cafe that serves up drinks with names like “Black Sheep Latte,” “Sheepuccino” and “Americano Sheep.”
Located in Iowa City near the University of Iowa, the shop has a modern flavor that you don’t often find in Midwest quilt shops. I appreciate traditional quilts, but as a 20-something quilter, I was very pleased to find a quilt shop filled with fabric my generation would drool over.
The yarn selection was also very impressive. There were so many colors, weights and textures. Home Ec. Workshop is easily doing just as much to make knitting appeal to the younger generation as it is for quilting with the fun modern prints it keeps in stock.
I don’t know about you quilters, but this rainbow of colors makes me want to give my sewing machine a rest and pick up a pair of knitting needles.
And aren’t these animals adorable? Any child would love to have one of these cuddly creatures.
Those lattes named after sheep for the wool, are made from organic fair trade coffee and organic milk. That’s something that gets me excited and fits with the modern feel of the shop.
Home Ec. Workshop is located at 207 N. Linn St., Iowa City, Iowa.
