Friday progress report: Log cabins, Barn quilts and family time

I’ve spent the last week in Shawano, the barn quilt capital of Wisconsin. But I didn’t come just for the quilts. My family has been coming here every summer for decades. There are eight adults, six dogs and one baby. It’s crazy but I always enjoy the time with family

The week has been filled with fun in the sun, board games and a little bit of quilting. I managed to get half of the maple leaf log cabin quilt finished. I’m hoping to get one more quarter done before we leave.

I also spent a few hours driving around Shawano County taking photos of the barn quilts. I also spoke with the man behind all 222 of them. Stay tuned for more on that next week.

I also did some sewing with my mom. She’s a beginner quilter and says she is just doing table runners, but she’s got a thing for panels. She spotted this one when we were at a quilt shop last winter, and I helped her add a border this week.

The wall hanging will go to my grandpa, so my grandma helped pin. I’ll quilt it, so this is a true family effort.

Whenever I travel I always visit quilt shops in the area. That meant a mini shop hop in Green Bay. I’ll write more on those in Virtual Shop Hop posts next week, but for now you’ll just have to settle for the Quilt Divas mascot.
