Best day ever

Growing pains

When I released the April Block of the Month pattern on Monday, it was my best day ever for website traffic. That was followed up on Tuesday with yet another, best day ever. The amount of traffic websites consider good is so variable, but I can tell you that I got as many pageviews in one day as I used to get in one month last year.

The problem, you all made my server angry and broke my website.

It’s a good problem to have, so much traffic that your host is overloaded. But I don’t like it anymore than you do when you all get error messages, slow load times and have to check out multiple times in order to get your patterns.

Monday night I moved from a shared server to a virtual private server and made a few other changes on the back end of the website to help speed up the site. But that solution is like a band-aid on an open wound. I’m already exceeding the amount of traffic in one week the virtual private server is supposed to handle in one month, so I need to make the move to a dedicated server.

For those of you who don’t have your own blogs and aren’t familiar with these terms, let me break it down for you. When you create a website, you have to pay to have it hosted somewhere. Most of the time you’re hosted on the same server as several other websites and you all share the same space. But when one website needs more space than is available, then problems happen, like the ones you all experienced earlier this week.

By moving to my own dedicated space, the website should run faster and you all won’t get error messages when the server is too overloaded to process your requests. It will take some research and some leg work on my end, so the issues won’t get better overnight. But I wanted to let you all know I’m working on it and trying to make your experience here better as soon as possible.

Thank you for visiting and helping Quilt Addicts Anonymous grow so quickly. It is very encouraging to have so much growth just a month into making the decision to do this full time.
