Virtual shop hop: Sew Sassy in Urbana, Ill.

Whenever I’m running low on Illini fabric, I make a trip to Sew Sassy in Urbana Ill., when I visit by in-laws in neighboring Champaign, Ill.

I need a few yards so I can make my husband an Illini Christmas stocking. We’ll be spending our fifth Christmas together and it is my fourth Christmas as a quilter, so I think it’s time I make him a stocking.

But besides an ample supply of Illini fabric, Sew Sasy also has a good selection of children’s prints, including hard to find fabrics for boys.

I picked up a couple yards of a Superman print for my husband. The one and only time he has ever asked me to buy fabric for him was when he accompanied me on a trip to a quilt shop and found Superman fabric that looked like a comic book page. That was when my husband found out how much fabric cost per yard. I haven’t dragged him to a quilt shop since, least he be reminded of the price.

There also was an entire row of batiks. It required massive amounts of self control to resist purchasing some for my stash.

Sew Sassy also has the largest collection of variegated quilting thread I have ever seen. I think the next time I have a quilt top finished I’ll have to bring it in to pick out the perfect combination of threads to quilt it with.

The quilt shop is located in a mall, which means it is open on Sunday, but the prices are a little higher than normal. You can check out Sew Sassy Inc., at 156A Lincoln Square, Urbana, IL.
