Five hour bed quilt sneak peak

Five-hour bed quilt, Moda, Color Theory, layer cake, quilt pattern

I’ve been working on a new pattern and wanted to share a sneak peak with you all today. The entire quilt top went together in five hours from start to finish.

The speed is thanks to using a layer cake, which cuts down significantly on the prep time and a speedy construction technique. Plus since the pieces are so large, and there isn’t much precision required, it sews up really quickly. The top measures 70 x 84 inches which is large enough for a twin or full-sized bed, and you could easily add a border to make it a queen sized quilt as well.

If you signed up to be a pattern tester, you should be getting an email this week to see if you are interested in giving this pattern a go.

Behind the scenes I’m working on a video tutorial for this project and getting some kits together in the Moda Color Theory fabric line so you all can make this quilt too. Sign up below if you want to be notified with the pattern and kit are available.

  1. Love this pattern! Hope to get it soon it would be great for the VFW survivor’s quilts I make often! Very nice, kudos!

  2. I love the pattern -please notify me when it is available. I just bought 2 layer cakes of this fabric and did not know what I was going to do with it. Also I would be interested in knowing what colors of gray you used.

    1. I used Moda’s Color Theory Ombre Graphite. When you cut it into 10 inch squares it looks like two different fabrics, but it really is just one. It is out of print, but I did find it here: http://www.quilterssquareky.com/shop/Fabric/Moda/Color-Theory/p/Color-Theory-Ombre-Graphite-Grey-x5394475.htm You’ll need three yards and one layer cake to make the quilt, so if you want a bigger quilt or want to make two, I’d order six.

I actually waited to long to order kits for this and will be making it up in a Christmas fabric for the kit and pattern because the Color Theory sold out quickly. The kits are being shipped to me today or tomorrow, so the kits and pattern should be up for sale in a couple weeks.
