Today’s Designer Chat is super fun. We get to meet Tamara Kate who designed Aerial for Windham Fabrics which is featured in this month’s Stashin’ with Stephanie subscription club bundle.
Tamara’s fabric is a blend of the cultures and geographic regions she has spent her life. Born in Canada, raised in the Caribbean and then spending her adult life back in Canada, Tamara is always longing for the colors and warm weather of spring and summer. That love of warmth, foliage and the bright colors of her youth are on full display in Aerial.
Her career as a fabric designer started with a creative exercise of responding to weekly prompts on Spoonflower led to a career as a quilting fabric designer, with Aerial being her 15th collection to launch. We talk about her design process which still starts by hand even in the technology age, how the pandemic has affected her creatively and hear the story of her first quilt and how it was on display for all to see at Quilt Market! No pressure.
I hope you enjoy today’s chat.
