Quilting a beginner-friendly feather using Full Line Stencils – Seeing Stars Quilting

Today we’re working with one of my favorite Full Line Stencil designs of all time, the Interlocking El Dorado. It’s the perfect beginner feather stencil and I cannot quilt feathers with out it.

Seriously, I’ve tried feathers so many times, taken classes, sketched endlessly, but I just cannot freehand quilt a good stencil without these stencils to give me a clear line to follow.

If you missed our Intro to Free Motion Quilting video series, I like to use quilting stencils and chalk pounce pads to transfer designs to the quilts I am working on.

The Interlocking El Dorado stencil is a great beginner feather, because it combines a very loose, casual feather with the swirl, to give you a break between quilting all those half hearts. The offset design makes it a fabulous all over quilting design and I have gone back to it several times.

Check out our video to see how to mark a quilt and stitch out this very fun and approachable design.
