Dare to DIY: Deck the halls
I had a sewing marathon last weekend. I spent most of the time working on Christmas presents and my Christmas fabric exchange quilt. I still haven’t started the Christmas stockings for my family.
So I’ll share photos of the paper-pieced tree skirt I made for the Mississippi Valley Quilters Guild tree at the Festival of Trees. My mom won the auction for the tree and it was on display in my home for two weeks before my sister and I embarked on a top secret mission on Sunday to get the tree from the Quad-Cities to the Chicago suburbs so my mom can enjoy it while she recovers from surgery.
My mom said she almost cried when my sister walked in the door with the tree and the 144 quilted ornaments to decorate it. My dad was in on the surprise, but we kept it from our grandparents since they’re not very good at keeping secrets.
I plan on making a second tree skirt in this pattern for myself, but that’s not going to happen this Christmas.
This is beautiful, Stephanie! What a gorgeous heirloom.
Thanks Kim. I’ve got to get a label on the back of it so future generations know who made it. 🙂
This is gorgeous…I have been scouring the internet looking for pretty tree skirts and this is amazing! You are talented!
Thank you Cassie. Here’s a link to the paper piecing pattern. I’d say someone with intermediate to advanced paper piecing skills can make it.
