I’ve been sewing with my 8-year-old daughter Angela since she was 4 or 5, gradually tackling harder projects and giving her more to do at the sewing machine.
She’s made placemats, quilts, dresses, stuffies and even a space helmet from cosplay foam. And today I’m going to share my top tips for sewing with kids so you can help them learn to sew and have a lot of fun doing it.
Along the way I’ve learned a thing or two about attention spans, what projects to tackle first and how to set them up for success so they have nothing but pride for what they create.
I hope you enjoy these tips and can put them to use the next time you sew with your little ones! Let me know in the comments if there is anything I missed that has worked well for you.
