Singularity: Simple half square triangle design with plenty of negative space!

I LOVE how this month’s Stashin’ with Stephanie quilt turned out.

Singularity is named for the pattern of half square triangles. When the blocks are assembled it looks like the threads that bind the universe together.

The construction is simple, made from squares and two-at-a-time half square triangles. But the layout allows for large sections of negative space, giving the eye a place to rest, and the chance to do some fabulous quilting.

We’ll have another video in a couple of days that shows you how I made those echoed swirls in the background and created contrast with rulerwork in the triangles.

The entire Quilt Addicts Anonymous team has enjoyed working with Find the Birds by Esté MacLeod for FreeSpirit Fabrics. The bold colors and designs are lovely to sew with and really make Singularity pop.

I especially enjoy Esté MacLeod’s mixing of colors. Her strategic use of yellow makes it look like there are metallics throughout the line, but it is just a little pop here and there. It’s absolutely fabulous.
