Jelly Roll Rug Placemats, Pillows Coasters and Trivets Tutorial!

If you’ve ever wondered how to turn the super popular Jelly Roll Rug pattern into a placemat, RJ Designs now has a pattern that gives you step-by-step instructions, PLUS ideas, dimensions and number of strips needed for pillows, placemats and trivets!

We’re kicking off our 12 Makes of Christmas 2019 series with this project because it makes a great gift, can be completed in a weekend and can easily be customized to all kinds of tastes and seasons.

And this is a big bonus … if you had trouble with getting the oval or round jelly roll rugs to lay flat, this straight version is guaranteed to be as flat as a pancake because there are NO curves. And we give you all the tips you need to help keep your strips super straight.

In the video I show you everything you need to make this project. We cover how to:

  • Stuff your jelly roll strips with batting and stitch down the center to secure them with stitching down the center
  • Sew your strips together using a zig zag stitch
  • Arrange your strips so the outside has a neat single fold edge
  • Cut your project to size for a placemat or pillow
  • Bind the raw edges for a placemat or trivet
  • Create a pillow
  • Cut out and bind your coasters from the leftover bits

When you finish watching it, you’ll know everything you need to make a fabulous set of matching placemats, coasters and trivet or a pair of pillows from one jelly roll!
